Located on the New South Wales Mid North Coast, around 330 kilometres north east of Sydney is Harrington. It’s a place for seachangers, retirees and a holiday spot for retirees and tourists alike – thanks to its breathtaking natural surroundings and variety of amenities.
The area was founded in 1853. John Oxley, the explorer, named it Harrington.
On Saturday 26th September 1896 the New South Wales Government Gazette contained the following ‘I Henry Robert, Viscount Hampden, Governor of the Colony of New South Wales aforesaid, with, the advice of the Executive Council, do hereby proclaim that Harrington is a village’.

In the 2021 ABS Census, Harrington had a population of 3.240. There was a median age of 64 years. Females accounted for 50.1% of the population with 49.9% of males .
The birth country of people were as follows: Australia 84%, England 3.9%, New Zealand 0.8%, Scotland 0.6%, Philippines 0.4%, United States of America 0.4%.
What’s the climate like? The Bureau of Meteorology says: there is a mean maximum temperature of 22C and a mean minimum temperature of 13C.

The beautiful Harrington Beach is one of the top attractions. The ideal location for retirees to spend their days swimming, fishing, surfing, or just lounging in the sun is along this undeveloped length of beach.
The Harrington Waters Golf Course, offers play in a breathtaking natural environment. It’s been said that the golf course has been rated as one of ‘the 25 greatest 9 hole courses in Australia’.
The Golf Course has also hosted the Over 80’s Australian Championships.
Harrington is located on the banks of the Manning River, which is home to a variety of fish species, making it a great place for anglers.
Retirement travellers will find a variety of attractions and activities in the tranquil and lovely Harrington.
