Where To Retire? Victoria’s Riviera

This area is referred to as Victoria’s Riviera and it is certainly the boating capital of Victoria. It is an easy three hour trip from Melbourne, and the towns of Paynesville and Metung have impressive real estate, with great lifestyle architecture and waterfront properties..some of which have jetty berths. It is only a couple of hours away from the high country and snowfields. Nearby is Bairnsdale, which is the commercial and administrative centre, and is a delightful town of around 10,000 people.

Metung and Paynesville are already home to ‘barefoot executives’ (ie: people who spend part of their week working in Melbourne, and the other part of the week on the Lakes). The Annual Jazz Festival (held in February each year) is worth visiting. One of Australia’s legendary jazz artists usually appears (he liked the area so much he bought a home nearby). Other musicians and a top racing car driver have also bought here, to escape and enjoy the lifestyle of the area. The average maximum summer temperatures are around 25.4C and winter average maximum temperatures reach 15.4C.
